Katie B. {Senior Pictures: Kinnelon, NJ}

Katie is a pint sized dynamo who, when she isn’t talking, she’s laughing and vice a versa. During the entire photoshoot she kept telling me that she’s an athlete (now playing LAX for Quinnipiac) and that this photoshoot was so not her but that she was so excited and having so much fun. It went on and on with her and I could barely keep up but, WOW! she was pure joy. It’s photoshoots like these that I never want to end. Take a look. If I had kept the sound on, honestly you would hear nothing but laughter or Katie talking. She is the best!

Gabby P. {Senior Pictures, Wayne NJ}

Gabby is a dancer and her mom warned me that she had more pictures than she could possibly know what to do with of Gabby. I warned her mom that this would be different. I should say I promised her; and I never break my promises. If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you’ll have seen a behind the scenes clip of Gabby laughing hysterically. I could have pulled just about any clip and it would have been similar. She smiles with her whole being, every ounce of Gabby smiles and emotes pure joy. To say it was a fun senior photoshoot is a vast understatement. And, for her mom, I kept my promise. Gabby’s senior pictures were like no others.

Emma {Senior Pictures:Kinnelon NJ}

The minute I met Emma for her styling consult I could feel the energy dancing around the room. Without even saying a word I knew how excited she was for her photoshoot. Day of, it was no different. There is nothing better than photographing someone who is so completely and utterly happy to be in the moment that she’s in. Part way through the photoshoot her mom came up to me and said…

You know, this is her dream come true. There was no other photographer for us, we chose you and that was it. Emma has been following you for 3 years.

My heart skipped a beat. And then when I looked at the images, it skipped 2 more beats. Take a look…

Aranka {Senior Pictures, Franklin Lakes NJ}

The day of Aranka’s photoshoot she pulled into the driveway with her Aunt, who, obviously loves her tons AND is a friend of mine who I haven’t seen since high school! We caught up and then she pulled me to the side and said I’m not really sure what you do but Aranka is a little nervous and really needs to have fun. That. Is. My specialty!

It was one of those crisp, blue, blue sky days with a lot of wind which most photographers probably cringe at. I actually like it a lot. I love the movement and it usually makes people feel good. Aranka had brought along a split skirt that took on a life of its own in that wind. I am in love with those images! We laughed so much trying to wrangle it in. So yes, we definitely had fun…just what Aunt Maria ordered!

P.S. Wishing you a day early Happy Birthday Aranka!

Head on over to my Instagram. I’ve got more content than I can possibly post once a week here on the blog; happy birthdays, events, additional photoshoots and video are posted frequently.

YOUR PERSONAL ESSAY IN PICTURES

This is a repost for those of you in the midst of college essays…

THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PERSONAL ESSAY & A PHOTOSHOOT

I’ve been in search of a college advisor to help with the personal essay portion of the college application. While speaking with an advisor today, she was explaining how she likes to pull threads eventually getting to the core of who that person is. What makes them tick and why…their true personality. She was giving examples, we discussed my son and she spent a whole lot of time with me (awesome!). Towards the end of our conversation

I blurted out, you do exactly what I do the only difference being is that I photograph their personality.

I told her I was a seniors photographer and started to continue when she said, I know you! You’re Paige P. It was funny and yes, I have to admit gratifying BUT the point is, a photoshoot is not much different (ok, it’s a whole lot more fun!) than a personal essay. You’ll have the gestures, looks and smiles that you’ve fallen in love with over and over for the past 17 years. Now it’s time to get it down on paper before they leave and to call me to set up a shoot. September is filling up.

What you need to know about campus social life series {6}

Lauren attends Colgate, swims and as you can tell from below, a horseback rider.

Kinnelon-teen-portrait

HOW I MET MY CLOSEST FRIENDS: The swim team and on my floor in my dorm. It’s easiest to become close to people you are constantly around.

DORM ADVICE: Keep an open door and be friendly. It’s really easy to get close to people on your floor. In regards to roommates, I know most people say “you just have to be able to get along” and I think that is true. Personally, my 2 roommates are my best friends. I didn’t find adjusting to living with people to be too hard.. it’s all about being easy going.

DORM, GREEK, OTHER: Our social scene is split between Greek and house parties, but you don’t have to be involved in Greek life in order to go out. A lot of sports teams have houses/ apartments that they host things in. We have one bar called the Jug that serves to 18+ (No one is really sure how this exists, but it does).

A TYPCIAL WEEKEND IS: A balance between being in the library or being out.

CLUB FAVORITES: Every athlete needs to be part of this volunteer program called “Adopt-a-Classroom” where we spend an hour or so at the local elementary school. This is the only “club” I’m involved in, but I love it.

LATE NIGHT CRAVING: Oh boy.. our dining hall is open 24/7 so late night eating is very prevalent and very dangerous (haha) Starting at 10, Chef Ed makes unbeatable french toast and his own “Ed burgers”.

MOST FUN CAMPUS TRADITIONS: The number 13 is our lucky number (Colgate was founded by 13 men with $13 and our address has #13) It’s fun to recognize many “13” related things on campus and every Friday the 13th is Colgate Day!

FAVORITE DISCOVERY ON/OFF CAMPUS: We have (what used to be) a ski hill on campus that has really pretty hiking trials off of it.

STUDY TIP: Start assignments early. While there isn’t daily homework like high school, you do have to study every day and work on papers/projects very far in advance in order to do well.

SECRET STUDY SPOT: In the science center next to my dorm. They leave the classrooms open at night so my friends and I like to take one and study together.

BEST CUP OF COFFEE: Saxbys!

MOST USED APP: Instagram

HOMESICKNESS: I missed my family the most leading up to breaks. I text my sister and parents almost everyday and call them whenever I miss them a lot. Having a family group chat is a fun way to stay in touch.

SKYPE OR FACETIME: Facetime!

LAST TIME I DID LAUNDRY: I actually did laundry today 🙂

Sorry for such long answers, talking about college is so fun 🙂
